Swarovski:

Vegas Bazaar

The Concept:

Swarovski was opening a new store in the Bally’s Grand Bazaar in Vegas. The store was designed to feature a tower with a 14-foot diameter ball made of 924 “custom cut Swarovski crystal spheres” and 1,800 multi-colored LEDs. Also, a an outdoor crystal shaped digital screen.

We were tasked with figuring out something cool to do with it.

Video/Lightshow

True to world Bazaar nature, we wanted to make the experience colorful and intriguing: The store would feature a barter window, which would be open during certain hours only. Tourists could come by, barter, and snag cool, unique gifts.

The idea for the outdoor screen + ball was a bit more involved. Traveling around the world to film actual bazaar scenery was a no-go ($$$$$$). So we decided to use photography that would get animated using parallax, then compiled into video explorations of world bazaars, at different times of the day. For example, during the early morning we would show the sunrise over Istanbul and shots of the bazaar opening (birds flying over). At noon we would show mid-day footage of a busy market in Bangkok (boats passing by in river). The soundtrack would feature music related to the counties and ambient noise of market activity.

The Barter Window:

Open during certain hours of the day, you can barter for certain sparkly items, that is until they run out.

@ Midnight

There was a light show every night at midnight and we needed something dramatic.

The Hidden Treasure:

This video would tell the story of a woman hunting through a dramatic and glamorized bazaar for a piece of hidden treasure. As she interacts with different pieces and people, their actions and colors are flung up to the crystal ball atop the screen.

Marking Midnight, she finds the treasure she was looking for – marking the beginning of the new day.
